Syracuse Man Sentenced to 14 Months for Illegal Possession of an Assault Rifle at East Syracuse Gas Station

A Syracuse man, identified as Richard Bradley, aged 36, has been sentenced to a period of 14 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. This sentencing follows his conviction for the possession of a loaded assault rifle, which was discovered in his vehicle at a local gas station in East Syracuse. The incident, which occurred on September 9, 2024, involved Bradley inadvertently discharging the weapon several times, though no injuries were reported, as per the statement given by the United States Attorney John A. Suddaby also mandated a three-year term of supervised release, which would commence subsequent to Bradley’s imprisonment. Furthermore, Bradley, whose past includes a felony conviction for criminal mischief making it illegal for him to possess a firearm, was ordered to forfeit the assault rifle.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, quick reactions from both the employees at the gas station and law enforcement helped ensure that no one was injured as a result of Bradley’s actions. ATF Special Agent in Charge Miller added, “This case is a powerful reminder of the danger posed when illegal firearms end up in the hands of those who are prohibited from possessing them.” Miller also expressed gratitude towards the collective efforts of the Manlius Police Department, the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of New York for their commitment to holding the individual accountable…
