SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Celebrations across Central New York marked Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, with events emphasizing unity and inclusivity.
In DeWitt, the second annual Juneteenth celebration at the town hall brought neighbors together. Brie Hall, the town’s recreation manager who organized the event, highlighted the day’s message: “Just that everybody is equal. There is no difference in anybody. You got to treat people how you want to be treated. Everybody deserves love, can give love. And there is no separation. We all just need to come together and we come together and we can do great things,” she said.
George Kilpatrick, host of “Inspiration for the Nation,” echoed this sentiment at the event, saying, “This is an opportunity for us to celebrate inclusivity. If you look at what’s happening here today in the whip, we get people of all ethnic backgrounds who are coming together. That is the strength of this country and that is the strength of this nation.”…
