New medical wing opens inside Syracuse shelter to serve homeless population

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Some of the most vulnerable members of the Syracuse community now have easier access to the healthcare they need without ever having to leave the shelter.

The Rescue Mission officially opened a new medical wing inside its emergency shelter on Dickerson Street. The clinic, embedded directly within the facility, is a first for the organization and one that leaders hope will change lives.

“This is really a monumental day in the history of the Rescue Mission,” said Dan Sieburg, CEO of the Rescue Mission. “Behavioral healthcare, medical healthcare, screenings—right embedded inside our shelter.”…
