SYRACUSE, N.Y. — As Syracuse set a new heat record, construction crews continued their work, focusing on a new on-ramp connecting Crouse Avenue and I-690. This effort is part of the broader reimagining of the Syracuse road system under the greater I-81 Project.
TeNesha Murphy, the I-81 Project Public Information Officer, explained that the New York State Department of Transportation strives to find ways to get the work done during the coolest parts of the day. It’s why work began on Monday at about 5:30 in the morning, part of a series of protocols to keep people safe while handling heavy equipment and concrete.
