Two Syracuse residents arrested in Eastview Mall theft case

Two Syracuse residents were arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly stealing over $1,300 worth of merchandise from Macy’s at Eastview Mall in the Town of Victor, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say 30-year-old Shamari Byrd and 33-year-old Shawntisha Gray were taken into custody on June 24 after store employees reported a shoplifting incident. Both individuals allegedly selected items from different areas of the store and exited without paying.

Byrd is accused of stealing $1,002 in merchandise and faces multiple charges, including grand larceny in the fourth degree—a class E felony. She also allegedly provided deputies with a false name and signed documents under that identity, leading to additional charges of second-degree forgery and false personation. Byrd was taken to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.

Gray was accused of stealing $348 in merchandise. She was charged with petit larceny and issued an appearance ticket. Deputies later turned her over to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant…
