SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Cultures collided at the World Refugee Day Festival held at Grant Middle School in Syracuse, where new Americans were celebrated for their contributions to Central New York. The event featured exciting activities and cultural performances, bringing together Syracuse neighbors and individuals from around the globe to celebrate their heritage.
Mohamed Chaim, a courtier at the festival, emphasized the importance of the event. “I think having this event is very important not only for the community, but at the same time the newcomers,” he said. “So it is a way for us to say that Syracuse is a microcosm of diversity and what makes the city great.”
Attendees enjoyed delicious food from local vendors and explored more than two dozen resource booths, each representing a program that helps new Americans settle into their new lives. Many of these individuals have left difficult pasts behind them…
