Board rules Alfonso Davis can be independent candidate in Syracuse mayoral race

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Alfonso Davis can be an independent candidate in the race to become Syracuse’s next mayor, the Onondaga County Board of Elections has ruled.

Davis, who was previously deemed ineligible after failing to get enough valid signatures on the required nominating petitions, was not allowed to appear on the ballot for the Democratic primary for mayor held on June 24, which Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens won.

Now, Davis will join the race as an independent candidate. But his candidacy was challenged…
