SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Blaming the impounding of federal funding by the Office of Management and Budget, PEACE Inc. of Syracuse told Syracuse City Schools and senior volunteers its Foster Grandparent program is ending immediately. $465,000 in allocated money is stuck. The agency says it has been “impounded” by the Federal Office of Management and Budget.
In a prepared news release, PEACE Inc., Executive Director Carolyn Brown said, “I’m saddened by the need to pause our Foster Grandparent program. The nurturing relationships formed across generations has helped empower both children and seniors alike. The positive impact of the program is clear, and it is my hope that our awarded funds are released from impoundment.”
Because of the funding freeze, the Foster Grandparent Program “cannot continue its important work until the funds are released,” PEACE Inc. said. “This will impact the most vulnerable among us – seniors and students,” Brown said. “There are people who say this program is the reason for them getting out of bed in the morning,” Brown added…
