Students anxiously awaiting the opening of Syracuse’s first STEAM School can look forward to it happening right on time. Administrators reported this week to the Common Council’s Education Committee that plans are on schedule to open this fall. The CTE or “Careers in Technical Education” pathways offer a diverse mix of subjects. Director Erin Noto said coursework for its current 250 students will officially count toward graduation as the school is now fully accredited by the state.
“What it does is it gives the kids an advantage if they complete the program. It’s like getting an advanced Regents diploma,” which she said was a big lift for the team.
Some of the career pathways the school will offer includes animation and game design, construction management, and entertainment engineering. Executive director Jody Manning said students are already working on an entertainment-related project.
“And what’s really exciting is the collaboration,” said Executive Director Jody Manning, referring to an entertainment-related project already in progress, “One of the animations that the students will be working on for Studio Central is the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. So, in exchange, the students get their names and the credits,” he said…
