Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a law extending New York City’s school zone speed camera program till 2030. The program uses automated cameras to discourage speeding near schools and has already led to a 94 percent drop in violations and 14 percent fewer injuries and deaths in those areas.
The updated law removes outdated sections from the original 2013 version and guarantees the cameras stay in place another six years. Governor Hochul said the cameras are a proven way to protect lives and make streets safer. More than 2,400 cameras are already in use across the city…
