Syracuse Animal Control Unit warns of Parvovirus in dogs

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Syracuse Police Department’s Animal Control Unit is warning of a growing outbreak of Parvovirus. The highly contagious virus can affect puppies and dogs that aren’t vaccinated.

Parvovirus, or Parvo, is a fast-spreading virus that attacks a dog’s gastrointestinal system. It’s mostly dangerous for puppies and dogs that haven’t been vaccinated.

“Death is pretty much the only thing. It dehydrates them. They have to replenish everything they’ve lost because it’s coming out of them,” said Barbara Mortas, dog control officer for the Syracuse Police Department…
