A Democratic Socialist will soon join Syracuse’s Common Council. She’s nothing like what you’d expect

Hanah Ehrenreich is a Democratic Socialist, a landlord, a single mom and a gun owner. She’s also in line to be the newest common councilor in Syracuse. Ehrenreich, who had never run for political office in Syracuse before, seemed to come out of nowhere to win more than 30% of the vote for one of two at-large seats on council. She trounced one incumbent and nearly matched the vote tally of another. She is all but assured to win one of those two spots in the fall.
