Hochul warns 750K kids in NY will lose Medicaid, health coverage

Governor Kathy Hochul is pushing back against a new federal policy that could strip more than 750,000 children in New York of health insurance through Medicaid and Child Health Plus by 2027.

On July 30, Hochul revealed county-level enrollment data showing just how widespread the impact would be, calling the federal move a “misguided” rollback that jeopardizes the state’s efforts to provide continuous coverage for young children.

Continuous coverage at risk for children under 6

New York recently implemented a continuous coverage program for children from birth to age six. It was designed to shield families from losing insurance due to temporary changes in income or employment—a leading cause of coverage gaps.
