SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Wednesday, July 30, marked 60 years since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid, two of the largest and most vital health programs in the U.S. But as federal cuts loom, concerns are growing.
Under the hot summer sun at Syracuse’s Columbus Circle, community members, healthcare workers, union leaders, and elected officials gathered to honor the 60th anniversary and send a clear message: these programs must be protected.
“We’re outraged that Congress voted to give trillions of dollars in tax breaks to corporations and billionaires while at the same time cutting funding for Medicaid and Medicare.
