Micron hires one of country’s biggest construction firms to start chipmaking project in Clay

Syracuse, N.Y. – The multinational construction company that built the Lake Placid ice rinks and the amphitheater on Onondaga Lake has been hired to start preparing the site of Micron Technology’s massive chipmaking complex in the town of Clay.

The hiring of Gilbane Co. is another critical step in making the Micron project, announced nearly three years ago, a reality. Micron says it plans to start clearing trees and trucking in fill at the site at Route 31 and Caughdenoy Road in November.

The Micron complex could one day employ 9,000 people and sprawl across an area three times the size of the New York State Fairgrounds…
