Auburn police arrest woman in parking garage rape investigation

Auburn Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman following an investigation into a reported sexual encounter involving a 14-year-old girl in the city’s parking garage.

The incident occurred on July 29 at 1 Lincoln Street. According to police, the victim disclosed having sexual intercourse with Starr A. Merritt after the two spent several days together. The victim’s mother notified police, prompting the investigation.

On August 2, Merritt came to police headquarters to file a complaint against the victim’s mother. While making her statement, she was confronted about the allegations and arrested following an interview. Police charged Merritt with one count of rape in the second degree, a class D felony…
