There have been several food recalls lately that pose health threats to New York residents. These items could potentially still be in your refrigerator, freezer, or pantry. There seems to be an uptick in our food products posing dangers to our families due to contamination, mislabeling, or foreign objects.

Even though there were tons of recalls last year, there weren’t quite as many as the year before. In 2024, there were 296 total recalls, which is slightly down from 2023, according to Food Safety Net Services. There were 1,392 people that got sick from recalled food last year. The number of hospitalizations doubled in 2024 to 487, up from 230 in 2023, and deaths were 19 in 2024.
Ritz Snack Cracker Sandwiches Recall
Wegmans recently issued a recall alert for Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches due to a potentially deadly health hazard. Mondelez Global LLC is recalling its individually wrapped packs of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches. The products may be mislabeled as the cheese variety, resulting in an undeclared peanut allergen, which is potentially dangerous to New Yorkers with a peanut allergy.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Kayem Foods Inc. of Chelsea, Massachusetts, has issued a recall of approximately 24,173 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken sausage products. The chicken sausage is contaminated with white pieces of plastic. The sausage was produced on June 28, 2025. The product at the center of the recall is:
11-oz. vacuum-packed packages containing four pieces of “ALL NATURAL al fresco CHICKEN SAUSAGE SWEET APPLE with Vermont made syrup” with lot code “179” and “USE/FRZ BY” date “OCT 01 2025” printed on the back package label.
