Driving under the influence of cannabis

CAMILLUS, N.Y. (WSYR) — Although cannabis is legal for recreational and medical purposes in New York State, driving under the influence of the drug is illegal.

Cannabis, similar to alcohol or any other legal drug, can negatively impact one’s ability to operate a vehicle, according to the Camillus Police Department’s drug recognition expert Sergeant Derrick Edick.

“…to recall short-term facts, memories,” Sgt. Edick said. “It can depress and relax your reflexes if you need to suddenly stop for a hazard or a light there…that can definitely affect that, as well.”…
