Auburn man charged after loaded, stolen gun found during stop

A traffic stop in Auburn early Tuesday morning led to multiple felony charges after police discovered a loaded, stolen handgun inside a vehicle.

According to a press release from the Auburn Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle around 3:18 a.m. on August 13 in the area of Murray Street. The driver was identified as Lonnie Bradford, the vehicle’s sole occupant.

Police say driver resisted and was armed

During the stop, Bradford allegedly told officers he had a firearm. When asked to exit the vehicle, police say he initially refused, and a brief struggle followed.

Bradford was removed from the driver’s seat and taken into custody. Officers then recovered a loaded handgun from the vehicle, later determining the weapon had been stolen from out of state.

Charges filed

Bradford faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (Class C felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree (Class D felony)
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree (Class E felony)
  • Resisting Arrest (Class A misdemeanor)
  • (2) Uniform Traffic Tickets

He was processed at Auburn Police Headquarters before being transported to Auburn City Court for arraignment…
