Syracuse Police Target Illegal Street Vehicles

The Syracuse Police Department is intensifying efforts to curb the use of illegal vehicles, such as dirt bikes, ATVs, and four-wheelers, on city streets. This crackdown comes after a rise in incidents involving these vehicles, which have been turning downtown intersections into makeshift playgrounds. According to Sgt. Tom Blake of the Syracuse Police Department, the issue is a recurring problem, particularly at busy intersections like East Fayette and South Salina Streets, where reckless driving has been reported.

In response to these activities, the police department has implemented strict penalties. If officers seize an illegal vehicle, the owner faces a $2,000 impound fee. Additionally, fines for operating these vehicles illegally start at $500 for the first offense, increase to $750 for the second, and reach $1,000 for a third violation…
