BJ’s Gas Station in East Syracuse Closing for Renovations

BJ’s Wholesale Club in East Syracuse will temporarily close its gas station starting Monday (September 15) for renovations expected to last about six weeks. The closure aims to address traffic congestion issues by adding more pumps and expanding traffic lanes at the Chevy Drive location.

The renovations come after numerous traffic incidents in the area. According to DeWitt Police, there have been nearly 100 collisions near the BJ’s location from 2024 to 2025, with eight occurring in the gas station area. The improvements will include new, faster pumps and additional lanes to prevent traffic from spilling onto public roads.

Ron Gustafson, chairman of the Village of East Syracuse Planning Board, emphasized that “safety is the first concern” and that the changes will help BJ’s operate more smoothly. The updated layout will feature two new pumps, allowing four more cars to fuel up simultaneously.
