Revealing hidden beauty: Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre has completed a $1.5 million restoration project that revealed intricate details that were “always there” but previously obscured. The project finished just in time for the opening of “Hamilton”, showcasing newly visible decorative features, brighter colors, and clearer depictions of ancient Greek and Roman figures. This marks the first professional restoration of the auditorium since the theater opened in 1928, with work performed by the same firm that restored the Hotel Syracuse and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The theater plans another $750,000 restoration for 2027, aiming to complete all renovations before its centennial celebration in 2028. (Scott Schild photo)

NY revamped home care for 200,000 patients. Now their caregivers risk losing certification: Thousands of home care workers statewide have an Oct. 1 deadline to be recertified, but many are scrambling to complete a required physical exam in time, families and advocates say. That threatens to upend care for as many as 200,000 New Yorkers, who rely on the home aides for meals, bathing and other everyday life needs. Oversight of the program previously ran under more than 600 administrators spread throughout the state, but this year the state awarded all that work to a single for-profit company.

ICE raid yields no violent crime arrests, only deportations: The massive immigration raid at a Cato protein bar factory resulted in no arrests for violent crimes, despite being billed as a major criminal investigation. Acting U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III announced that only five people were charged with illegally reentering the country after deportation. The Sept. 4 raid detained 57 workers, many of whom have already been deported to Guatemala. The operation has devastated families in Fulton, with several children losing one or both parents on what was the first day of school. While Sarcone claimed the raid was necessary to protect jobs in a region with “high unemployment,” Cayuga County’s actual unemployment rate is 3.7%, historically low and below the national average.

Syracuse teacher faces multiple charges in teen rape case: A Syracuse city school teacher has been charged with rape after allegedly having sexual contact multiple times with a 16-year-old boy. Lansing Dimon, 54, who joined the district in 2019, was arrested on Aug. 28 and faces two counts of third-degree rape and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Syracuse School Superintendent Anthony Davis confirmed Dimon has been placed on administrative leave, noting the incidents occurred off school grounds. Police stated the teen is not currently a student in the district…
