Inmate charged after alleged assault on deputies at Onondaga County Justice Center

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. — An inmate at the Onondaga County Justice Center is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say he attacked two supervising sergeants during an altercation this week.

The Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened Thursday, September 11, around 1 p.m. Inmate Zhamir Wright, 29, was ordered to remove items blocking visibility into his cell. When told his actions violated facility rules, deputies say Wright became combative.

During the struggle, investigators say Wright placed his arm around one sergeant’s neck in a strangulation hold and bit him. Staff were able to subdue Wright, who was then arrested by detectives…
