Saying “the trend has shifted,” Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday visited the Syracuse Public Safety Building to tout significant crime reductions she said were supported by state funding.
Amplifying a city announcement made last month, Hochul said crime in the city had decreased nearly 28% from last year. She highlighted what she called the state’s $6.7 million investment in law enforcement technology across Central New York, including money for the Central New York Crime Analysis Center, a robot dog, drones and LED lighting she said have helped address crime.
Violent crimes dropped 14% and shootings were down 15% from last year, while gun-related deaths over a five-year period had been halved, Hochul said at a press conference with area leaders and police officers.
