Onondaga County deputies’ union criticizes Sheriff’s response to wrong inmate release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The union representing some Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office employees has released a statement after the wrong inmate was released from the jail in downtown Syracuse last month.

Sheriff Toby Shelley previously told the I-Team that four Deputies and one Sergeant were disciplined due to their roles in the incident. The inmate who was mistakenly released was taken into custody four days later, and the proper inmate was released.
