Psilocybin might be legalized for medicinal purposes in New York state as lawmakers consider the drug’s treatment for certain health conditions.
The growth, cultivation, and regulated adult use of psilocybin can be used to treat conditions such as depression, alcohol use disorders, and chronic pain. The drug, known as magic mushrooms, was discussed during a public hearing on Sept. 30 in New York City.
Assemblywoman Amy Paulin is a big supporter of the bill, saying the hearing testimony made “it clear that psilocybin shows great promise for treating debilitating conditions” that “have been resistant to traditional therapies.”
In a statement, Paulin said the priority must be “establishing framework that maximizes safety and ensures proper oversight for patients and providers.”…
