HAMLET OF JAMESVILLE – After manning the shop for the last 46 years, owner of Jamesville Hardware Robert Powell has decided to retire and close the business this fall. Powell, now 76, still has some last-minute tasks left to fit in and finish before then, but he already sold the building at 6515 E. Seneca Turnpike, saying that “it was time to take it easier.” After all, from the time he opened the doors to the store all those years ago until just this past January, Powell had steadily worked six days a week running the shop, rarely if ever taking a full weekend off. “It’s been more than half my life spent here, so it’s difficult and it took a while for me to mentally settle on stepping away,” Powell said.
