Owners’ bold vision for troubled Syracuse apartment complex: demolition, new construction
The owners of Parkside Commons are pursuing a breathtaking plan to remake the sprawling, long-troubled East Side housing complex into more livable housing. They plan to build nearly 200 new affordable apartments across the street, renovate 200 other units at the existing location, and demolish the four worst buildings to make way for new mixed-income housing. The phased project, which is still in the early stages of planning, will require millions of dollars in government funding and several layers of regulatory approval. A lot could go wrong to hold up the deal.
