35,300 cars issued warnings for school zone violations in Syracuse, but many drivers slowing down

Syracuse, N.Y. — The number of warning violations issued in Syracuse school zones is dropping after the first month of the city’s new traffic camera program, officials said.

Warnings went down 41.2% in the second two weeks of the program, according to ticket data released Friday by the city.

Between Sept. 16 and Sept. 30, about 35,300 warnings were issued for speeding or running red lights, said Sol Muñoz, a spokesperson for the city. Roughly 34,700 of those were for speeding and 600 were for red-light violations…
