Onondaga Undersheriff Jeffrey Passino Set to Graduate from OCC After Balancing Career and Education

Jeffrey Passino, Undersheriff of Onondaga County, is scheduled to complete his college degree at Onondaga Community College (OCC) in December. Passino works in law enforcement during the day and attends classes at OCC one night each week. Some classmates have mistaken him for campus security instead of a student.

Passino, 48, started college after graduating from Liverpool High School in 1996. He worked full-time and took classes part-time at OCC. In 2000, he accepted a job with the Sheriff’s Department’s Custody Division, which led him to pause his education for family and job benefits.

Passino has worked in law enforcement for 22 years, including as a School Resource Officer at Oswego High School. He made several attempts to return to school but was unable to do so until 2023, when he became Undersheriff…
