NY entrepreneur donates $100K, offers Wegmans gift cards amid SNAP freeze

Upstate New York entrepreneur and philanthropist Jeff Knauss is lending a helping hand to the Rochester and Syracuse communities ahead of the possible Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits freeze next month.

Knauss is providing Wegmans gift cards of up to $150 to those who will be affected by the SNAP stoppage and has donated $100,000 through the Knauss Family Foundation to support the effort. A GoFundMe campaign has also been started and has exceeded $100,000 as of 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

“Millions of families will be losing access to their SNAP food benefits beginning November 1st,” a message on Knauss’ website says. “That means empty fridges, skipped meals, and parents quietly going without so their kids can eat. We believe that access to healthy food is a human right — not a privilege.”…
