Syracuse launches overnight DPW shift Nov. 2 for snow readiness and leaf pickup

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse is shifting into winter mode. Mayor Ben Walsh announced the Department of Public Works will begin its overnight shift on Sunday night, Nov. 2, positioning crews to plow early-morning snow and, when it’s not snowing, continue citywide leaf pickup.

“As temperatures drop and the weather patterns shift, it’s important that we stay ready for whatever conditions Syracuse throws our way,” Walsh said. “Our DPW crews work tirelessly to make sure roads are safe and neighborhoods stay clear.”

Leaf collection runs through November during both daytime and overnight hours. Residents may hear backup beeps and equipment noise while crews work at night. “We know the noise from overnight collection can be disruptive, and we appreciate residents’ patience,” said DPW Commissioner Jeremy Robinson. “Our goal is to clear leaves efficiently before they cause flooding or slow down snowplow operations.”…
