Curious four-year-olds welcomed the mayor-elect to their classroom Thursday morning as Zohran Mamdani highlighted one of his most ambitious proposals: free, high-quality child care for children ranging from six weeks to five years old.
“While families with young children comprise about 14% of the city’s population, they comprise about 30% of the set of New Yorkers who are leaving the city,” Mamdani said.
Pressed about his timeline for making universal child care a reality, Mamdani said, “I view the time that I will be the mayor as the time that we have to implement the policies we ran on.”…
