The opening of the new Ikea in Destiny USA in Syracuse has many Swedish-style superfans eager to explore eye-catching roomsets and scoop up furniture and décor with famously hard-to-pronounce names.
I, for one, love Ikea (especially their wardrobe units), but not as much as one of my colleagues, who rented a car on a whim and zipped out to a store preview Wednesday evening. Akum Norder, the Times Union’s senior editor for opinion, has deep affinity for Scandi design and a serious soft spot for well-priced flat-packs, quirky decor and, of course, those irresistible Swedish meatballs.
