State Police executive staff under investigation for alleged credentials misuse at Ryder Cup

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police confirmed an investigation is underway into allegations against members of their executive staff that are accused of improperly gaining admission to the Ryder Cup golf tournament in September, as first reported by the Times Union. State Police said on Wednesday that the investigation has been turned over to the New York State Inspector General’s Office at Gov. Kathy Hochul’s direction.

According to State Police, the incident involved executive staff possibly using work credentials reportedly supplied by the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) to attend the tournament, which took place at Bethpage Black Golf Course in Farmingdale between September 26 and 28. NYSP officials imparted to the Times Union that New York State Police Superintendent Steven James has “asked for the resignation of two executive staff members involved, and both are expected to retire in the coming days.”

“From the moment we learned of these allegations, we moved quickly to determine the facts,” Superintendent James said in a statement issued publicly on Wednesday. “It is critically important that an outside, independent third party conduct a thorough investigation to avoid any appearance of a conflict. I want to assure the public that I take these allegations very seriously, and that any member of the State Police who is found to have violated our policies or state law will be held accountable.”
