SYRACUSE, N.Y. — In Syracuse, no snow removal contractors have obtained the necessary licenses this year, despite a city ordinance mandating them.
Syracuse Auditor Alexander Marion revealed that licensing costs $50 for the first vehicle and $10 for each additional one, while fines for operating unlicensed range from $150 to $350. The law requiring businesses to obtain licenses dates back to 1971, and discussions on enforcement were held seven years ago in the city council chambers.
Former City of Syracuse Common Councilor Susan Boyle expressed skepticism about the benefits of licensing back in 2018, saying, “I don’t really feel that requiring a license for snow plow remover contractors in the city of Syracuse is going to necessarily benefit anyone.”…
