ALBANY — Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday vetoed measures that would have expanded New Yorkers’ ability to sue the state and access public records, as well as rejecting multiple changes to the regulation of utilities. At the same time, she signed into law a broad package of bills curtailing discriminatory housing practices, as well as boosting campaign finance transparency and education access.
Hochul vetoed 48 bills, including one that would have addressed courts’ unwillingness to certify class action lawsuits when government operations are involved. The bill aimed to promote equal treatment, reduce duplicative lawsuits and provide an effective state-level pathway for challenging illegal government conduct.
