Shootings with injuries down nearly 15% so far this year in Syracuse, police data shows

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Shootings with injuries in the City of Syracuse have dropped nearly 15% so far this year, according to new data reported by Syracuse Police.

The decline mirrors a broader statewide trend among the 28 communities participating in Governor Kathy Hochul’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative. From January to November, those communities reported 81 fewer shootings and 142 fewer people shot compared to the same period last year — the lowest levels recorded since the state began tracking the data in 2006.

  • Incidents of shootings with injury: down 13% (47 to 41)
  • Shooting victims injured or killed: down 13% (64 to 56)
  • Incidents of shootings with injury or death: down 12% (57 to 50)
