A new statewide survey shows many New Yorkers live one expense away from financial trouble as costs keep climbing, according to the Times Union.
The report from the Community Service Society of New York found one in four adults has no emergency savings, while more than a third say they’re barely getting by. Housing, groceries, and other essentials now outpace incomes, forcing many households — especially middle-income families — to rely on credit cards, buy-now-pay-later plans, or loans from friends and family.
Researchers warn that being “middle class” no longer guarantees stability and urge lawmakers to tackle housing, health care, child care, and debt as the 2026 legislative session approaches…
