2 families lose almost everything including a dog, 2 cats in fire that destroys East Side home

Syracuse, N.Y. — Chris Yeschick was in the shower Monday morning when a fire alarm began blaring through his home on Syracuse’s East Side.

By the time he stepped out, smoke had filled the upstairs apartment at 2815 E. Genesee St. He quickly pulled on his clothes and began calling for the family’s puppy, moving from room to room as visibility faded.

Flames soon pushed through a second-floor window, forcing him to flee…
