Community, local businesses, lawmakers unite to fight crime on Syracuse’s south side

With crime on the rise in recent years in Syracuse’s south side neighborhood, people from all over the community are working for change in the city and making a difference.

“I watched my neighborhood go from the middle class where it was in the 70s to where it is today, and it’s heartbreaking,” Dunbar Association volunteer and south side resident Jyvonna Mason said.

The south side of Syracuse has had a 23% decrease in violent crime in the past year, but homicides are still up by 33% over the past five years…
