Snowstorm Headed to New York State After a Green Christmas

As portions of New York State experience a green Christmas, the forecast is calling for significant snowfall immediately after the holiday. In fact, on the day after Christmas, much of New York State could see up to one foot of new snow, bringing a dramatic shift in winter conditions.

Snowmobile Season Still on Hold, For Now

The snowmobile season in New York State will not officially begin until local clubs open the trails and conditions are deemed safe. That typically won’t happen until after the holiday deer hunting season ends, sometime in January.

However, portions of the Tug Hill region have already seen snowmobiling activity, and conditions are shaping up nicely as we move into the latter part of the week.

Snowfall Forecast: Central New York in the Bullseye

According to the National Weather Service, a widespread snowfall is expected to blanket much of Central New York over the next 24 to 36 hours, adding to already impressive seasonal totals in some areas.

Quieter weather is expected through Christmas Day with just a few light snow showers possible at times. Those planning any post-holiday travel Friday and Friday night should keep a close eye on the forecast as a messy winter system could make for hazardous travel. pic.twitter.com/lpf6Yo2vHV…
