ALBANY- Governor Kathy Hochul has granted clemency and sentence commutations to 13 New Yorkers, according to a recent announcement from the governor’s office.
The clemency recipients include people convicted in the 1980s and 1990s of offenses such as robbery, assault, drug-related crimes, weapons possession, and larceny. Among those granted clemency are Peter Asan, convicted of attempted first-degree robbery in 1989; Rolando Perdomo, convicted of assault and drug possession offenses in the 1980s; and Denise De Simone Fierro, convicted of drug sale charges in 1987. Several others on the list were convicted of drug-related or nonviolent offenses more than 25 years ago.
In addition, Hochul commuted the sentences of two incarcerated individuals serving lengthy prison terms as persistent offenders. Terrance Cole, a U.S. Air Force veteran sentenced to 20 years to life for burglary convictions tied to substance use disorder, will now be eligible to appear before the state parole board earlier than originally scheduled.
