Syracuse woman wanted in child abandonment case turns herself in to Penn Yan police

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Syracuse woman who was wanted for allegedly abandoning her 13-year-old child and two dogs in an uninhabitable Penn Yan home has turned herself in, police said.

Ashley A. Montgomery, 43, formerly of Penn Yan, was arrested on an indictment charging her with abandonment of a child, second- and fourth-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and abandonment of animals, according to the Penn Yan Police Department.

The charges stem from a September 2023 incident when officers responded to a village residence after a concerned citizen reported suspicious activity.
