Syracuse activists plan anti-ICE protest and march on Monday

Syracuse, N.Y. – Nearly a dozen Syracuse-area activist groups are pooling resources to organize an anti-ICE protest and march through downtown Monday afternoon.

The protest is one of many taking place across the nation demanding ICE to leave cities in the wake of the Renee Nicole Good’s death. Her ex-husband has said Good had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at school Wednesday and was driving home with her current partner when they encountered a group of ICE agents on a snowy street in Minneapolis. She was fatally shot by an agent.

ICE has targeted dozens of people in Central New York in recent months, including the owners of two Chinese restaurants, a farmworker in Otisco, and roofers on their way to to a job at a Mexican restaurant. A married couple from Cuba — a janitor and a supervisor at SUNY Upstate Medical University — were also arrested, along with a hospital janitor from Guinea detained while walking in Syracuse’s Hawley Green neighborhood, where he lived…
