SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — After being detained while attending a regularly scheduled immigration hearing in the fall, Alcibiades “Alex” Lazaro Ramirez Gonzalez, a Upstate Medical University worker, now faces deportation to Cuba, a country he has zero ties to.
Gonzalez’s union, the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), has confirmed that Gonzalez is expected to be deported in February.
In a statement, Ali Cottrell, the union president, said that Gonzalez has been a pillar in the community and the hospital, a man who has always paid his taxes and went to work. He said the Batavia judge’s verdict led to a profound loss in the community…
