Syracuse council votes to remove Flock license plate reader from intersection

The Syracuse Common Council on Monday voted to remove a license plate reader at the intersection of Headson Drive and Thompson Road amid concerns the company that owns it – Flock – is collecting and sharing personal information after the city’s police department inadvertently opted into sharing it.

The camera at the location belongs to the town of DeWitt but is located on city property.

The council decided to hold off on a vote that would revoke its agreement with Flock for citywide cameras. The Syracuse Police Department (SPD) is working on a contract with Axon to provide license plate readers…
