SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)
One of the snowiest starts
We all know it’s been an intense, classic winter thus far across Central New York and one we haven’t seen the likes of in years! Syracuse officially crossed over the 100″ benchmark for the season already as of Sunday, January 25th, or the 9th fastest in recorded history!
Lots of lake snow, including possibly the snowiest day on record in Syracuse on December 30th, with nearly two feet of snow due to a band of lake snow and snowstorm, has all combined to provide us with such a fast start.
What’s the fastest winter to reach 100″ in Syracuse? It was the winter of 2000-’01 when the 100″ mark was reached on January 4th which ended up being the second snowiest winter on record in Syracuse with 191.9″ of snow! You can see the top 10 list of fastest to 100″ below, and notice that all but one of the winters ended up with well above average snowfall. No surprise there.
We’ll see how much we end up with this winter over the next 2 to 3 months…
