Relative’s DNA helped identify woman who was dead for 428 days not named

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Police Department said DNA from a relative helped investigators identify a woman who was found dead in a vacant house in the city in November 2024.

Elisia Russell, 37, was found dead on the morning of Nov. 20, 2024, at 216 Furman St. At the time, detectives had no information about who she was.

Spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department Kieran Coffey said a person came forward believing that they could be a relative of Russell. They submitted their DNA sample and it matched the DNA of the deceased…
