Taxpayers are on the hook for $10 million toward new housing and retail complex near Township 5

Camillus, N.Y. — State and local officials have approved more than $10 million in grants and tax breaks for a proposed $52 million housing and retail development across from the popular Township 5 complex and Costco between Routes 5 and 173.

The Church Street Station project, developed by Joe Goethe of Cameron Hinsdale LLC, would include 50,000 square feet of retail and office space, plus about 180 multi-family units. It would have about 30 discounted homes, according to the developer, who is behind the nearby Township 5 development. That opened in 2014 and includes a movie theater, local and national retail stores, medical offices and apartments.

Now Goethe wants to add a 22-acre development on the east side of Hinsdale Road, nestled inside a residential area near Christ Community Church of the Nazarene…
